Bernadette Roberts is a very interesting and unusual Enlightenment story: as a catholic nun she had reached the mystical state of ecstatic union with God, or “God Consciousness”, described also by great Christian mystics.
However, she was shocked to realize, as her state deepened, that from a certain point onward her sense of “self” fell away, and as a result, the very notion of “God” too.
This led her to revise her all Christian terminology and thinking pattern, resulting in amazing statements such as this.
